The German Language Division in front of the curtain
Facets of the German language
The German Language Division covers a wide range of topics within German linguistics. The main focuses include
- Variation linguistics and sociolinguistics
- Language history and text linguistics
- Semantics and pragmatics
- Corpus linguistics and experimental psycholinguistics
In teaching, we offer a comprehensive linguistic education in line with international quality standards, in which students have the opportunity to learn about a wide range of topics from the theoretical description of the linguistic system to the history and variation of the German language. The division is also characterized by a decidedly empirical orientation, in which methods of corpus linguistics, variation linguistics, sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics are of particular importance.
Our research profile is divided into two central research areas:
- Variation Linguistics and Sociolinguistics (Professor Ziegler)
- Theoretical and Empirical Linguistics (Professor Onea)
