Research Group "Transformations of the Human"
The group brings together researchers from various disciplines of the Faculty of Humanities - from anthropology and history to literature, cultural studies, translation studies and digital humanities. At the center of the research interest are the concepts of the human, which are currently undergoing fundamental change. It is therefore about the diverse redefinitions of being human and the human against the backdrop of two globally effective transformation processes: the massive ecological threats on the one hand and the far-reaching technological and media developments on the other. While these changes appear as moments of crisis and potential threats, they also enable a critical revision of traditional notions of the human.
In order to make the transformations of the human scientifically comprehensible in their historical, epistemic and ethical dimensions, a critical and above all interdisciplinary approach to the humanities is required. The research group faces up to the challenges of an inevitably revised reflection on what man once wanted to be, what he can still be today and what he should perhaps be in view of endangered living environments.
