Connections and Cooperations
Franz Nabl Institute
The Franz Nabl Institute for Literary Research focuses on current and historical aspects of the literary scene in Austria. The researchers employed at the Institute contribute their expertise from their relevant collection, documentation and research activities to teaching at the Department of German Studies. The Graz Lectures on the Art of Writing are an important cooperation format between the Franz Nabl Institute, the Literaturhaus Graz and the Department of German Studies.
International Association for Germanic Studies (IVG)
The IVG was founded in 1951 and is dedicated to international cooperation in the field of Germanic studies. A highlight is the IVG Congress, which takes place every five years at the location of the respective presidency. The XVth IVG Congress will take place in Graz from 20.07.-27.07.2025. The general theme is "Language and Literature in Times of Crisis - Challenges, Tasks and Opportunities of International Germanic Studies".
Austrian Society for German Studies (ÖGG)
The Austrian Association for German Studies (ÖGG) was founded in 1992. It has been based at the University of Graz since March 2023. The ÖGG sees itself as a platform and network for university and non-university German studies in Austria. As a specialist society, it organizes academic conferences - also in cooperation with partner institutions abroad. By awarding the annual Wendelin Schmidt-Dengler Prize for outstanding dissertations, it promotes young academics in the field. However, it also takes a position on educational policy processes and their impact on the various German studies courses.
